Day 607 Pond in a Box

The pond kit, she has arrived. All 158 pounds of her. UPS guy actually left it in our garage while we were eating dinner last night. The main box, the one with the liner, pump, chemicals, light kit, etc. looked all beat to hell and had been re-taped several times. Nothing looked damaged though. The lighter box only contained the filter/waterfall bucket. Its about 18 in diameter and 18 deep, with a wide, protruding lip. Big freakin box full of air really.

In spite of the lack of damage to the contents, the main box was still short a 25 length of 1 diameter hose. Hose that was to be used for connecting the pump to the filter. Yeah, kind of important. Im going to call the company today and see if theyll credit me for the hose and just let me buy it locally. Saves them the hassle & expense of shipping it and saves me 3 days of waiting for it. Ideally, Id like to have things up & running by Sunday. No way they could get hose to me that fast with out shipping it over night. Thatd cost more than the hose is worth.

Of course, the weather will no doubt trump everything. Today is expected to be ok, maybe some showers tonight, but Saturday is literally a washout. No point in even trying to do any digging then. Sunday is showing potential for getting some work in by afternoon, but getting the liner installed and starting to fill might be a touch ambitious. Theres only about 8 tons of dirt to be moved.

Suppose I could get an outline established and maybe get some initial clearing done. Theres mulch to be moved, and some grass could be transplanted too. Might be able to get in some digging down to the first tier. No sense in going further than that with the anticipated rain on Saturday. Also have to figure out how to install this filterfall thing. Instructions with the pond kit said something about gluing the liner to it with RTV. Im failing to see how thats going to work out. There was also an alarming lack of pictures, drawings or sketches included in the instructions. Like none at all. Best go do some g00gling in filterfall installations. Well, that and some real work too.

Update from 2 hours later: Opportunity knocked. Taking the afternoon to go dig. Found filterfall instructions too. Also learned the hose I need was backordered and is now on its way. Plus, with the weather forecast for tomorrow, I can go do a nice long, guilt free workout. Im liking the way this is turning out. Hot damn.
