Ouch, still

Day 631 Ouch, Still

Enjoyed a quiet, restful Mothers Day. No workouts, no breakouts, no breakdowns. Did the flowers & cards thing. Son #2 was home from school, but very justifiably pleaded the poor college student syndrome. He sold old text books back to the college just to have money for a haircut & a Mothers day card.

Son #1 will be swinging through town tonight. He and Jill went to her parents yesterday and will stop in tonight for dinner and a chat on their way back to Syracuse. Im hoping I can grab Zach, take him aside and do a better debriefing on Serenas whole stalking adventure. Its just so hard to gauge reaction over the phone sometimes. Besides, I leaked a crucial tidbit of info to Serena to help spring the whole surprise attack. She has promised to give me shit about it mercilessly. I need to find out if she left a little factoid with Zach that I can use in a similar manner. I kinda doubt it. Maybe, when we finally do meet, well just drink enough together that we can make stuff up to tease each other with. Either way ought to be fun.

Our own Mothers Day extravaganza consisted of trips to two of our favorite places: Bergen Water Gardens & Nursery and the Garden Factory. Got 9 new fish for the pond from the Bergen Water Gardens and 5 more water plants from the Garden Factory. Got some dry land plants too, but the pond plants were more fun to pick out. Theyre way different from the typical geraniums & begonias. Just need to keep them more protected over the winter.

So, the new fish. Picked up 3 little orange & black gems called Orfs, 3 orange & white Comets (but a different flavor orange then on the Orfs), and 3 of these little fan tails called red caps.

One of the Shibunkins apparently took offense to the new guys. He spent the entire afternoon harassing the red caps, to the point of actually nudging them up and out of the water at times. This one little red cap finally found a place to hide, under a piece of overhanging shale. Poor guy looked like he was run ragged. Hope they learn to play together a little nicer, and soon.

We also seem to have lost one of our big Shibunkins. There are very suspicious markings around the edges of the pond, including some pretty clear paw prints that look to be the front feet of a raccoon. This could be very bothersome. Hate to think that the local raccoons are developing a taste for sushi especially our sushi. Need to figure out a way to deter them. Unfortunately, firearms are not an option in our neighborhood.
Way to risky (and loud) Plus, being fur bearers, raccoons actually have a legal trapping season. Pesky little problems.

Sport is sneaking peeks into my freezer and cupboards and is making subliminal suggestions about what I might like to be snacking on. I dont know how shes managing to do it from Pa to NY, but how else would she know we have cookie dough ice cream in the freezer and white chocolate chunks just waiting to be used in the next batch of cookies? Does Captain Safari really have super powers? Sure, that stuff is mostly for the kids now that theyre home for the summer, but how can one resist? Especially ANY cookie with white chocolate in it? I will just have to firm up the resolve, let the kids eat the good tasting stuff thats bad for you, and Ill stick to the bad tasting stuff thats supposed to be good for you. And I really do dislike raw celery low fat peanut butter or not.

Still paring down my list of eccentricities to do that 6 weird things meme Sport tagged me for. Hoping doing that will take my mind off the white chocolate.
Better go be productive for a while.
