Trying to Think (of a title)

Day 807 Trying to Think (of a title)

NaBloPoMo #7

Guess who was guess what when I got home from work last night? Yes, and we were headed to my Moms for dinner too. I was tempted to leave her home, but dragged her along anyhow. Figured her state was her problem. Mostly.

Still had an enjoyable diner at Moms. Pot roast, with carrots & onions, scalloped taters, cranberry sauce (the chunky kind, with orange zest tossed in), plenty of horseradish (the straight up grated stuff, not the watered down creamy kind). Had an old family favorite salad dressing cake for desert, with a tiny slab of vanilla ice cream to wash it all down.

Mom had a couple of mini photo albums out one of which documented a talent Dad had. Now Dad worked hard and played harder. This probably led to his peculiar talent, which we all saw so richly documented last night. See, Dad had this thing he could get in a power nap anywhere, any time. Moms side of the family was very accustomed to Dads napping abilities and even took pride in posing with him for the power nap documentation photos. Last night we saw again how if you worked hard and lived an honest life, you could enjoy the sleep of babes, anytime, anywhere. Literally.

Most of these shots were taken on Sunday afternoons, but thats just when the clan gathered. We saw shots of him in over stuffed recliners, chaise lounges, lawn chairs, stretched out on couches, sitting on the floor next to a couch, strewn out on a hillside, even precariously balanced on a picnic table bench seat. Must have been a sign of how comfortable he was around moms extended family, because he never did that around his own clan. Of course, we never associated with them overly much, some sort of internal family tension dynamic thing going on there that I stayed right the heck away from. Anyhow. The man could sleep. We have the proof.

Someone had to leave dinner early so she could check her sub-line. Wasnt enough that she had her cell phone with her and could call her voice mail every 30 seconds if she wanted (she did check twice while we were there - no messages), no she had to be home to do it. What ever off we went, first to leave. Never got one call for a sub all night long. Thats how it goes most nights too. Shes just so paranoid about it. Ive asked her why she calls every 30 minutes. Why not just call at 9pm and again at 10pm, then call it good till morning? She said something about needing to call the subs as soon as possible, both to give them time to prepare and to make sure she gets them before the middle school secretary. Then I asked her if the school couldnt invest in a system that calls her cell phone whenever someone leaves a message in her sub-line voicemail system. She looked at me like I had three eyes. Seems like a reasonable request to me just need to see if the schools phone system can do that. With the way everything is being switched over to computer control, it ought to be a snap.

Thing is, shell hint that we never go anywhere or do anything, but when we do, shes got that damn sub-line hanging around her (our) neck like a leash. Then we either have to leave early or just flat out not go. Might have to offer her a choice. Stay home and check your sub-line, come on out and have a little fun without the leash, or come on out, but go check your sub-line at something approaching a reasonable interval. Pick one. Either way, she needs to stop bitching about a situation that she could fix.

Well, lunch is done. Time to save, post it in a bit. Al Anon meeting tonight, also seems to be some question whether or not Im going to a soccer game. Silly question.

If you havent yet, be sure to go out and vote today. You have no right to whine about the people in office if you dont vote. If you dont like the ones that are in office now vote for the new folks.
